As a Christian, I have been asked many times, by both believers and non believers, why I believe in God. They ask me what proof I have to show He even exists, or ever existed. I give them the answer they don’t want to hear, but the only answer I have for that question… FAITH.
One of the definitions of faith is “a belief that is not based on proof”. I admit I have never seen God, I have never touched God (though he has touched me), I have never seen a photo of God and if you asked me to pick him out of a line up, I couldn’t do it. But I have talked to God, and he has talked to me too. Not in the typical face to face type of conversation, but we have conversed.
There have been times in my life, as there have been for all believers, that tested our faith. When my mother died when I was not quite 15 and she was not quite 40, I didn’t understand why God would let that happen. There have been a number of other instances where I asked God, why? I don’t recall not believing in him, just questioning why.
As believers, we say we trust God to take care of us and to be there when we need him, and He’s true to his word. 1st Peter 5:7 says to “cast all your care upon him, because he cares for you”. What a comfort to lean on those words. Imagine a God that cares for His people and protects them and guides them and all he wants in return is for us to love him; and to have faith.
For our comfort, here are a few quotes from the Bible regarding faith:
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. – Hebrews 11:1
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. – James 1: 5,6
Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. – Matthew 17:20
When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven. – Luke 5:20
So, the next time someone asks you why they should believe in God, just tell them to have Faith!
Keep the faith!
