Collapse of a Society

The book of Ezekiel is an interesting and prophetic read. In my studies, I came across Ezekiel 22:23-29, which in my humble opinion foretells the collapse or a society/the fall of a nation. It states:

23 “Again a message came to me from the Lord: 24 “Son of man, give the people of Israel this message: In the day of my indignation, you will be like a polluted land, a land without rain. 25 Your princes[a] plot conspiracies just as lions stalk their prey. They devour innocent people, seizing treasures and extorting wealth. They make many widows in the land. 26 Your priests have violated my instructions and defiled my holy things. They make no distinction between what is holy and what is not. And they do not teach my people the difference between what is ceremonially clean and unclean. They disregard my Sabbath days so that I am dishonored among them. 27 Your leaders are like wolves who tear apart their victims. They actually destroy people’s lives for money! 28 And your prophets cover up for them by announcing false visions and making lying predictions. They say, ‘My message is from the Sovereign Lord,’ when the Lord hasn’t spoken a single word to them. 29 Even common people oppress the poor, rob the needy, and deprive foreigners of justice.”

Allow me to give you my opinion.  These verses refer to our spiritual leaders, our prophets/teachers, our governmental leaders and ourselves.  All part of the recipe for disaster to a nation or society.

The prophets referred to are false prophets, claiming to speak for God and using that pretense mislead us, to their own advantage.

The priests refer to our spiritual leaders, our pastors, reverends, priests, bishops…many who are bastardizing the Word of God and who fail to teach their congregations the difference between right and wrong, and who don’t stress the Sabbath, dishonoring God in the process.  They are not setting good examples for the rest of us to follow.

Our governmental leaders (no party is exempt), who are like wolves, tearing apart their victims, destroying people’s lives for money and power; totally disregarding the needs of the people.  They use the positions to steal from the people, hold us down from improving our own lives and totally ignoring those who elected/appointed them.

And finally, we the common people.  “We oppress the poor, rob the needy and deprive foreigners of justice.”  We use the excuse that we are dumped on by those more privileged than us, so we dump on those less fortunate than us.  It all rolls down hill.

If you take a few minutes to contemplate this, you will see very clearly what is going on in the good old U S A.  I love my country and have no plans to live any place else.  But if we as a nation don’t wake up very soon, we may all be looking for some place else to live.
