Love is the Answer

I am a citizen of the hippie generation, and our motto was “Peace and Love”.  Who knew that this is what Jesus commanded us during His time here on earth.  Fortunately, I think the vast majority of the hippie generation “gets it” now.  We just needed someone to show us that it wasn’t really our idea.

At  the last supper, Jesus commanded His disciples to love one another as He has loved them. It gets no simpler than that.  But there are two Bible passages I would like to share with you that make it exceedingly clear that love is the answer.

Love in action as described by the Apostle Paul is written in Romans 12:9-18: “9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[a] Do not be conceited.

17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

And Paul describes the Greatest Gift of All in 1 Corinthians 13 “1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, it profits me nothing.
4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

When I put  together these articles for this blog, I quote a lot from the Bible, and the words I use outside the Bible come from the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is the author, I am simply the one who puts it on paper/internet.

Mumbles says,

Love one another as God has loved us!

God’s Love and Peace!
