I often find it difficult to initiate a discussion about Jesus, Salvation, God and Heaven. I will easily join such a conversation, but for whatever reason it’s hard for me to start it. It’s not because I don’t believe and it’s not that I am ashamed or embarrassed; at least I hope non of those apply.
I’ve just finished reading 1 Peter, and Chapter 3, versus 15-17 says; “15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. 17 For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.”
So it clearly tells me to always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks me to give the reason for the hope that I have. And of course the simple answer is “Jesus”. I can get more detailed and talk about His sacrifice for me, His suffering and dying for me, and the love Jesus holds for all of us who believe.
Note that the passage also says “But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. Kind of like walk softly but carry a big stick, with that stick being the love of Christ which can disarm any man.
This country we live in is reportedly 87% believers in a higher power, and yet we let the pagan 13% run our country. I think it’s time to gently and with respect, to tell that 13% to sit down and shut up. This country was founded by believers and has been blessed by God because of all the believers; but if we are going to roll over and let the non-believers run our country into the ground, then we are in danger of God abandoning this country, just as He did with Sodom and Gomorrah.
So I will work on my evangelism skills and try to tell the story by initiating the conversation and not just sit idly by.
Evangelists arise, non-believers sit down, shut up, listen and learn!
