The Hem of His Garment

The son of a dear friend is in surgery as I write this; he broke his neck and is currently paralyzed from the upper chest on down. Which reminded me of one of my favorite stories from the bible:

Matthew 9:20-22

20 Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. 21 She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” 22 Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.

Many places in the bible tell us about having faith; such as the parable of the mustard seed, and many examples of either the person who is ill or a family member believing Christ could heal and He does. In this case a woman who has suffered bleeding for 12 years knows that if she can just get close enough to touch the hem of his garment, that she will be healed. Jesus feels the power pulled from him to heal this woman and asks who touched His garment. The woman confesses that she did, and Jesus tells her that her faith has healed her. I have often remembered this story when I am feeling down or sick and I tell Jesus that if I could only touch the hem of His garment, then I will be healed. And shortly after that I am feeling better.

This is such a powerful story of faith, and I pray that my friends son will have the faith to touch Jesus garment, or to ask his father to do so for him, that he can be healed.  I know without a doubt that it can happen.

Mumbles says,

Reach out and touch the Savior and you will be healed.

God love and care for you all.
