“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” – Matthew 6:19-20
I stole the title of this article from Pastor Greg Laurie, I found it on the Jesus-Loves-You.org website. I apologize for stealing it, but it was such an incredible line I couldn’t help myself. I hope you will forgive me.
What the gentleman said was “there is a bumper sticker that says he who dies with the most toys wins, but you can’t take it with you, because a hearse does not come with a U-Haul trailer”.
It’s true you know, we can build up a fortune in stocks, cars, houses, etc., but at the end it’s all going to go to someone else. Hoarding is similar, you can gather as much junk as you can store in your house, but…
But Jesus tells us to store up for yourself treasures in heaven; love of mankind, belief in and love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. These thing you get to keep. As for good deeds, you and the person you did the deed for both win, the person you helped gets the great feeling that someone cares, and you get the good feeling that comes when you realize how much of a difference you have made in someones life.
Jesus told us over and over in the Bible that we are to love one another, and it feels so good to follow His direction. Most times your love will be returned to you and that is the greatest reward. If it is not returned, don’t fret, you still made a difference, it just wasn’t reciprocated.
I love you all, and I hope that you will love me too. But, if not…
God loves us all!
